John Williams - Atlanta

My first re-collection of life as a human being occurred while singing with my older brother and younger sister in my parents’ bed. My father and mother were lovers of music and exposed us to different genres at an early age. The aforementioned was the genesis and indeed the foundation of my love for so many variations of music. The spectrum indeed ranged from recitals of the Kingston College choir to street dances at Papine.

As a pre-teenager, I had to stop playing the piano as my lessons conflicted with cricket practice and all activities at that stage of my life took a backseat to playing cricket. That decision never affected the continuation of my love for music.

During my teenage years, I was fortunate to be able to attend numerous concerts on the campus of The University of the West Indies, Mona. My mother worked there and was able to get tickets for all the performances at the Students Union and the Dramatic Theatre. It was there that I saw Sparrow, Lord Kitchener, Calypso Rose, Kes Chin, Byron Lee, The Paragons (John Holt), The Vagabonds, Carlos Malcolm and many more.

My love of music makes membership in this organization a “rightful place” for me and I pledge my utmost to promote its continued development.
